Press Conference on the Project “Accession of Serbia to the EU“, as part of the Jean Monnet Module, Erasmus + Program

On December 3, 2015 University Business Academy in Novi Sad held a press conference on the project entitled "Accession of Serbia to the EU", within the framework of Jean Monnet Modules, Erasmus + program.

The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Education, Audiovisual and Cultural Agency.

The “Jean Monnet action” within the Erasmus + program started in 2014 and was designed with the aim to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies around the world. The European module is a project within the framework of Jean Monnet scheme and is an integral part of the Lifelong Learning Program. A Jean Monnet Module is a short teaching program (or course) in the field of European Union studies at a higher education institution with duration of three years.

The main objective of the Jean Monnet Module is to support teaching and research in the field of European integration studies at the level of higher education institutions within and outside the European Union. University Business Academy, or more specifically- Faculty of Economics and Engineering Management submitted its project proposal to the Erasmus Program + / Jean Monnet Activities Selection 2015 (Call for Proposals ref. EAC / A04 / 2014). The project is entitled "Accession of Serbia to the European Union", which received very good reviews and has been approved by the European Commission. The project will be co-financed by the European Commission. Bearing in mind that this is the only project from the Republic of Serbia approved in this Call for Proposals, this can be considered as yet another confirmation of reputation and expertise of staff at the University Business Academy, Faculty of Economics and Management, in the field of European integrations. Approved trainers on the module are Prof. Vladimir Medović, Ph.D. (project manager) and Prof. Jelena Vapa-Tankosić, Ph.D.

The main purpose of the project is to promote the idea of European integrations and regional cooperation, as well as to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about institutional ties between Serbia and the European Union, resting upon legal and economic instruments as part of the stabilization and accession process as well as procedures and conditions for EU membership. Hence, the project will contribute to increasing the quality of existing academic courses on European integrations. The realization of the project will started with the first lecture which is scheduled for 08 December 2015. Target groups include undergraduate, master and doctoral students, who will receive the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that will help them in further career development. Special attention will be given to social groups whose activities are important for spreading information about the EU (journalists, members of professional associations, members of NGOs etc.).

The media were first addressed and welcomed by Rector of the University, Prof. Jovo Kolar Ph.D., who presented the goals of the University Business Academy and its constituent faculties. "University Business Academy is one of 18 universities in Serbia and, as such, gives a significant contribution to the academic community, which is only being restated with this project" - said Prof. Jovo Kolar, Rector of the University Business Academy.

After the University Rector, Prof. Marijana Carić Ph.D., as President of the Council of the University Business Academy, also addressed the attendees. On this occasion Dr. Carić wished to emphasize the importance of international cooperation, pointing out that in 15 years of operation the University has signed between 40-50 international cooperation agreements. Dr. Carić also stressed that this is not the first educational program (project), but that during the last few years the University Business Academy successfully implemented the IPA HU-SRB CBC - EU master study program which resulted in an accredited degree program of Master studies: "Economic and Legal Studies of the European Union".

At the end of the conference, Prof. Vladimir Medović Ph.D. addressed the audience and presented the project in further detail, listing its objectives and activities. Dr. Medović also explained that the project consists of 4 teaching/curricular activities, namely- 3 workshops and one research activity. The courses will cover the legal and economic aspects of Serbia's accession to the EU.
